Chamber Welcomes Howard's Bar with a Ribbon Cutting Celebration!

GREATER STILLWATER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE / PRESS RELEASE Chamber Welcomes Howard’s Bar to the Chamber and the Community.  Adam To, along with his family cut the ribbon at theChamber Celebration on June 7th, 2023.  

Stillwater, MN. The Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce celebrated local business Howard’s Bar with a ribbon cutting celebration on June 7th 2023. Owners Adam To and Caroline Smith, along with their family (including their dog, Howard), staff, vendors, local patrons, friends, Greater Stillwater Chamber ambassadors and staff were gathered for the celebration.

Adam To, formerly a chef in LA at Trois Mec, a Michelin star restaurant, and Caroline Smith known as Your Smith, and also for her band Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps, purchased Whitey’s Bar last winter and have dreams of making it their own, starting with re-naming the bar after their beloved dog, Howard.  They have updated the space with new tables, paint, decor and menu, but they are making great efforts to keep the vibe and nostalgia alive with subtle homages to both Whitey’s and John’s Bar.  Adam will cook the items he loves to cook, smoking trout, rolling out fresh pasta and trimming ribeye, introducing us to his culinary talents, while maintaining many of the Whiteys favorites.  The pull tabs and fresh squeezed juices will also stay, said To.  

Caroline and Adam really want to get to know the culture of Stillwater and impressed many as they got to work beside the staff to really understand the guests and the atmosphere of Whitey’s before changing it over to Howard’s. They wanted to understand the struggles of their staff, meet the regulars coming in the doors each night and really get a feel about what needed to change and what could never change without a backlash!  We think the future looks bright for Howard’s, and you might even get to meet Howard as well!
