Joe’s primary responsibilities involve tracking current business conditions across the six-state Ninth Federal Reserve District, which includes northwest Wisconsin, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana.Along with tracking the overall economy, sectors Joe follows closely include agriculture, manufacturing, energy and mining. He pays special attention to prices families and businesses pay – which are central to the Federal Reserve’s dual mandate of promoting stable prices and maximum employment. Joe is a central contributor to the Beige Book, which is a report of current business conditions published by the Federal Reserve System every six weeks. Joe’s work includes extensive outreach to business and community leaders, and he gives frequent speeches on economic conditions across the Ninth District.Prior to his current position, Joe served as a regional economist and as a staff writer and analyst for Minneapolis Fed publications the Region and fedgazette. He holds degrees in economics and journalism from the University of Minnesota.Date and Time
