Business Development session: Worker Classification
There are two worker classification disputes that can cost businesses thousands of dollars if done incorrectly.
The first is classifying workers as either independent contractors or employees. It is conservatively estimated that one in seven employers have improperly classified workers as independent contractors when they should be employees.
The second classification is whether employees are exempt from overtime laws. Contrary to popular belief, simply paying someone salary does not mean that they are exempt from overtime.
Please join us as we untangle the complicated web of worker classification which, when done properly, can save your business thousands of dollars.
Lida Bannink is an attorney with Eckberg Lammers, P.C. out of their Stillwater office. Lida leads Eckberg’s employment law practice group by assisting employers in navigating the complicated web of local, state, and federal employment laws.
When disputes arise, Lida is a strong advocate in the courtroom. Lida frequently advises employers on topics such as wage and overtime requirements, employment agreements, discrimination and harassment, employment handbooks, collective bargaining, whistleblowing and retaliation, medical leave and disability accommodations.
