Born in a refugee camp and arriving in America at age six, Kao Kalia Yang brings a powerful perspective to conversations about war, displacement, belonging, and the importance of welcoming refugees. Yang’s recent book, Where Rivers Part, shares the epic journey of her mother from Laos to the U.S., focusing on her survival during the Secret War, life in refugee camps, and resettlement in Minnesota.
An award-winning Hmong American author, teacher, and speaker, Yang is the author of acclaimed memoirs including The Latehomecomer, The Song Poet, and Somewhere in the Unknown World, along with children’s and young adult books exploring the experiences of Hmong families and communities.
No registration. Doors open at 6 PM. The talk begins at 6:30 PM and will be followed by a Q&A and book signing, with books sold by Valley Bookseller.
Program is presented by the Trinity Lutheran Church Missions Team, Stillwater Public Library, and the Stillwater Public Library Foundation.
