September 2017. Stillwater, MN. The Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce joined Youth Advantage in celebrating their new office space on September 26 in Stillwater. Youth Advantage leadership, including Board members and staff, as well as local business owners, supporters and Chamber Ambassadors joined in the celebration. Youth Advantage’s move to their new space took place during the summer, having outgrown their previous location of seven years. “We are thrilled with our new space!” stated Suzanne Burnett Block, Executive Director. “We now have room to accommodate all of our current needs and to grow with our plans for future programming.”
Youth Advantage is an independent, locally-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that was established by Suzanne Burnett Block in 2009 after discovering an unmet need while working with families in need in the community. Their mission is to provide access to arts, athletics, and educational-enrichment experiences for children of financially-challenged parents or guardians who reside within the boundaries of the Stillwater School District #834. Youth Advantage believes that if a child is given the opportunity to find and pursue his or her passion, and is in an environment conducive to succeeding in that passion, the child will likely choose to stay on the path to success.
Empowering kids on their path to success, Youth Advantage supports over 315 children each year with sporting equipment, musical instruments, and financial assistance to participate in arts, athletic and educational activities. Experts agree that children need 4-6 hours each week of creative activities, structured community programs, and involvement in sports, clubs or organizations as building blocks for healthy development. Youth Advantage helps provide these resources when families cannot afford to do so.
The organization is supported through financial donations from community members, local Foundation grants, and donations of gently used sporting equipment and musical instruments. Youth Advantage organizes two large, well-established fundraising events in Stillwater each year: Stairs of Stillwater, a 5K walk in late summer/early autumn, and a Mardi Gras party in the winter months with the 2018 event scheduled for February 23.
